What’s the Hollywood Connection?
Did Robert Micthum really live in Milltown House?
Yes, Room 2 is the Robert Mitchum Suite with a glorious sea view.
The huge Hollywood star did live in Milltown House in the year 1969 while filming David Lean’s double Oscar-winning ‘Ryans Daughter.’ As a result our gorgeous residence has gained legendary status in Dingle folklore. Milltown House is steeped in nostalgia. We have a display of memorabilia and old photographs from this romantic era in the history of our house.
While you’re enjoying Dingle’s great restaurants and pubs, tell any friendly local that you are a guest at Milltown House and an abundance of Robert Mitchum stories will pour forth.
For further information on the Robert Mitchum connection, check out this article.
Note: the Management of Milltown House would like to assure guests that all traces of the Marijuana plants allegedly grown by Robert Mitchum and his Hollywood cohorts have long since vanished. This has been verified by our professional gardeners.

YES. Pets are welcome in Milltown House. We are adamant that guests should not have to leave their little pooch at home. We only permit pets in the 3 downstairs bed-rooms (otherwise this would be unfair on other guests), these rooms are presently a Triple, a Double and a Kingsize room with reasonable seaview and its own private exterior entrance. Both the triple and the Double room have access to their own private patio yards. We also have exterior facilities such as Dog-Kennels. We have a beautiful and noble Irish Wolfhound puppy on site called ‘Seamus’, so canine company is particularly welcome. Our co-owner Stephen McPhilemy and his teenage daughters are also very fond of cats but please contact us in advance to discuss your needs if you are considering bringing your pet on holiday to Dingle with you.
Yes, absolutely. We love welcoming families to Milltown House.

We have 2 acres of waterfront lawns to play on and handmade wooden play-frames, an in-ground trampoline, and tree-forts behind the ash trees on the Milltown lawns. There are DVD movies to watch and the pitch n putt course is right behind us with a ‘crazy golf section.’
We also have our adorable and gentle Irish Wolfhound called ‘Seamus’ on site to keep a protective eye over the ‘wee ones’.
Reputable child-minders and baby-sitters can be arranged.
Gaeilge Failte?/Is Irish spoken?
Ta an teanga tabhatach…
The Irish language is spoken and can be heard in Milltown House on a daily basis. Our levels of fluency range from ‘leaving-cert Irish’ (high-school standard) to fully-fluent and electrifying West Kerry Irish. 80% of our staff are fully fluent, a huge source of pride for us. ALL staff are expected to use even a few words of Irish/cupla focal Gaeilge each day. Nothing is more important that our heritage. One of the main reasons Dingle is so popular.
